You just know a God like that is going to be all 'Did you guys figure out the parallel and speed of light and the exploding universe thing?*gigglesnort*Well, I just made all that up, the whole thing is only like six thousand years old. I had to paint the light in. Hehehe. And you fell for it! Bwhaha...what do you mean I accidentally gave it away in Genesis? Me-damn it!'DavidTCnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17545571.post-18598831124145354132014-02-08T10:51:29.098-05:002014-02-08T10:51:29.098-05:00@Johnny E -- Yeah, the knots you have to twist you...@Johnny E -- Yeah, the knots you have to twist yourself into are pretty impressive.thttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04749674951075102239noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17545571.post-1180948757608708492014-02-08T10:49:51.011-05:002014-02-08T10:49:51.011-05:00@Flying Squid with Goggles -- We totally talked ab...@Flying Squid with Goggles -- We totally talked about that! The response (IIRC) was that Genesis 2 is talking about only a particular region where humans were placed, presumably on Day 6, and not the whole of creation. But yeah, modern Biblical scholarship pretty much agrees that Genesis 1 and 2 are completely distinct creation stories cobbled together.thttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04749674951075102239noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17545571.post-89522395583513029052014-02-08T10:46:08.168-05:002014-02-08T10:46:08.168-05:00@Anonymous -- Agree, but in my experience everyone...@Anonymous -- Agree, but in my experience everyone tends to think that "science" is in fact on their side. I've literally never met anyone who rejected the authority of science, they just have a different idea what it is that "real science" says.thttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04749674951075102239noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17545571.post-44116090424797969912014-02-06T07:00:24.974-05:002014-02-06T07:00:24.974-05:00What's particularly amusing is that someone wh...What's particularly amusing is that someone who has no problem asserting that our view of the universe was itself created out of whole cloth for our benefit, rather than bearing any direct relation to the real thing, presumably rejects the same argument as applied to the Bible.

To which I'm sure he'd say that it's just as easy for God to create a fabricated image of an entire universe as it is for human beings to create a fabricated story describing our own history.Johnny Ehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02332149992788801634noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17545571.post-7669077834769551582014-02-05T09:04:44.125-05:002014-02-05T09:04:44.125-05:00Perhaps the best response to such a meticulous You...Perhaps the best response to such a meticulous Young-Earth Creationist is to ask them about the contradictions in the Genesis 1 & 2 creation accounts - e.g. in Genesis 1, plants are created on Day 3, before the heavens are created on Day 4. In Genesis 2, the heavens are created before plants. In Genesis 2, man is created before animals, and in Genesis 1, animals are created Days 5 & 6, and man on Day 6. A collection of bronze age myths was not put together with a mind towards continuity.Flying Squid with Gogglesnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17545571.post-80640046438815270962014-02-05T08:16:29.071-05:002014-02-05T08:16:29.071-05:00I've encountered this thought process before a...I've encountered this thought process before and my response is fine you believe that the Universe is x years old but was created to appear x+y years old. Since science observes the universe and not the mind of God or the FSM or any such thing science should therefore conclude and teach that the universe is very old, that evolution happened/s, etc etc. And you can believe that it's actually only 6,004 (what a tiny tiny world people imagine) but that you should not advocate that we teach that from the perspective of science. Now in practice almost no one would really be able to adhere to this but it's actually a coherent position (never mind what it implies about a God that would do this).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
